Timeshares in Costa Rica

Are Timeshares Right for You?
From white sand beaches to vibrant culture, exciting eco-tours to luxurious resorts, Costa Rica is a virtual haven for vacationers. Some have enjoyed the area so much, that they've decided to purchase timeshare there so that they may return again and again. Timeshares are a way for individuals to share the economic responsibilities of owning a vacation property. Not everyone can afford to purchase a second home in his or her favorite region of Costa Rica, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to enjoy annual or biennial vacations in their favorite destination. There are timeshares for sale all over Costa Rica, but there are a couple of things that you'll want to consider outside of location before you decide to purchase a vacation property.

They're Flexible
One of the most revered benefits of timeshares is their inherent flexibility. When you buy timeshare, you're essentially purchasing an increment of time known as a share. The share that you purchase should be based on your vacation lifestyle. For example, if you know that you'll be able to take one weeklong vacation every year, you'll probably want to purchase a 1/52 share (one week every year). This is the most common increment of time, however, you can choose to purchase a greater share (two or three weeks annually) or a smaller share (one week every other year or every three years.) While they can be a great way to save money, timeshares only work when you use them.  That's why it's important to be realistic with yourself when you are deciding what size share to buy.

They Can Take You Anywhere
Another consideration when purchasing a timeshare is if you're going to purchase an affiliated property. In this context, affiliated refers to corporations called exchange companies. These companies make it possible for timeshare owners to trade their weeks in for other weeks within the network. There are timeshare owners all over the world and when you own an affiliated property you can essentially trade you week in Costa Rica for a week anywhere in the world. Affiliated properties can be slightly more expensive but many buyers find it more than worth the initial cost to be able to use their timeshare to travel anywhere.

Save Money With Resale
Finally, you can save thousands on your timeshare purchase when you buy resale. Timeshare resale simply means that you're buying the property from a previous owner, rather than directly from the resort.
